Wednesday, November 20, 2024 16.00 - 17.40 Committee Room 7
Chair: Rodrigue Yossa

Dr Rodrigue Yossa of WorldFish will present a practical scientific writing workshop for students in aquaculture and related disciplines. Dr Yossa has a passion for teaching scientific writing and is the author of a recent guide entitled “A POCKET GUIDE TO SCIENTIFIC WRITING IN AQUACULTURE RESEARCH”. He has served as Editor-in-Chief of the the Journal of Applied Aquaculture from 2015 to 2022, and currently works for the WorldFish organisation as Director of Aquatic Food Biosciences, overseeing research for the development of aquaculture in Africa, Asia and the Pacific.

The workshop will provide students and less-experienced aquaculture researchers with some insights on research organization and manuscript presentation, in order to increase their chances of getting their research results into print. The content of the workshop will include the raison d’être of scientific writing, the particularity of scientific writing in aquaculture science, the types of scientific publications, and what happens before the writing, during the writing and after the writing. The workshop will focus on the principles of scientific writing, writing a peer-reviewed original article, reviewing a manuscript for a peer-reviewed journal, and writing an abstract for a conference, a research report and a working paper.
