The Head of Research for Fish Health leads 14 highly competent and high-performing employees, reports to the Division Director of the Aqua Division and is part of its management team. The Division for Sustainable Aquaculture is one of Europe's largest in applied research on biology in aquaculture. Here we work with exciting research in nutrition, fish welfare and health, early life stages of fish, breeding and genetics, water quality and recycling. Work is carried out on salmon, trout, gilthead seabream, crayfish and other species. We have modern research facilities at the research station for sustainable aquaculture at Sunndalsøra and the aquaculture station in Tromsø. The preferred office location for the position is primarily Tromsø.

Responsibilities and tasks

The Research Manager will have a central role in developing the fish health field at Nofima, securing collaboration with industrial partners and obtaining funding. Your main responsibilities and tasks will include:

  • Development and management of the fish health department with budget and performance responsibility, project portfolio and employees
  • Identify and initiate new important research fields and project areas to equip the organization for long-term growth for the industry, new technology and new business opportunities
  • Targeted communication and sales of key areas for increased project opportunities with existing and new partners
  • Strategic approach to financing and use of the policy instrument
  • Skills development, personnel follow-up and administrative work

Requirements

Skills and qualifications

  • Minimum master's degree in a relevant field, preferably PhD
  • Experience from the aquaculture industry and/or academia
  • Structured and skilled at completing deliveries
  • Expertise in management, project management and finance
  • Knowledge and understanding of Norwegian and international funding sources and policy instruments. Ability to set clear goals and follow up on them, develop, lead and motivate highly competent people
  • Good written and oral presentation skills in English, and have good knowledge or are willing to learn Norwegian or another Scandinavian language
