Job Details
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries Wealth, and Water Resources is seeking an experienced Shellfish Expert to lead a one-year pilot study focused on scallops and abalone farming in Khasab. This project aims to evaluate the feasibility and sustainability of commercial cultivation of these high-value species in Oman's marine environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and oversee pilot farming systems specifically for scallops and abalone.
- Establish and manage hatchery operations, including algal production and larval rearing.
- Conduct comprehensive field surveys and environmental assessments.
- Develop protocols for broodstock management, seed production, grow-out, and harvesting.
- Perform water quality monitoring and implement biosecurity measures.
- Analyze data and prepare detailed scientific reports and publications.
- Engage with stakeholders and train local teams in shellfish aquaculture practices.
- Provide recommendations for scaling up successful methodologies.

Requirements
- Master’s or PhD in Marine Biology, Aquaculture, or a closely related field.
- Proven expertise in scallop and abalone farming, with a strong track record of relevant research or pilot projects.
- Experience in hatchery operations, including algal culture and larval rearing.
- Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality scientific publications.
- Strong analytical and project management skills.
- Knowledge of Oman's marine ecosystems and aquaculture potential is an advantage.
