Manitoba Fisheries is seeking for qualified candidates for the role of Fish Culture Program Manager. This position may be based out of Winnipeg, Lac du Bonnet, or Brandon, Manitoba.
The Fish Culture Program Manager is responsible for the strategic vision and management of Manitoba’s fish culture program. This position is also responsible for fulfilling some of Manitoba’s stated arrangements with Canada regarding fish stocking under its delegated authority to manage Manitoba’s fisheries. This position provides direction and high-level objectives for three fish culture stations in Manitoba: Whiteshell Hatchery (West Hawk Lake), Swan Creek Hatchery (Lundar) and Clearwater Lake (The Pas).

Conditions of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must be wiling and able to extend hours as required
- Must be wiling and able to work in rural field locations, on lakes and on rivers as required, which may include inclement weather such as extreme cold
- Must be physically able to undertake the duties of the position, including the ability to lift and maneuver a minimum of 30kgs
- Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s Licence, and ability to travel throughout the province
Requirements
Essential:
- Degree or diploma in Biology, Microbiology, Fish Culture/Aquaculture, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience with fish culture systems and freshwater recreational fisheries in North America
- Experience in project management including ability to manage large budgets, contractors, volunteers and other branch colleagues
- Demonstrated supervisory experience with ability to supervise staff remotely
- Experience in strategic planning
- Problem solving, analytical and decision-making skills including ability to analyze and evaluate plans, programs and projects, and recommend appropriate courses of action
- Strong verbal skills and experience presenting complex information to a variety of audiences
- Strong interpersonal skills with experience working in teams
- Effective written communications skills with experience writing clear and concise reports and correspondence
- Strong organization including the ability to work on several tasks concurrently and to prioritize workloads to meet deadlines
Desired:
- Experience working in or managing a fish hatchery
- Strong political acumen
