Lead the Division's Mitigation, Aquaculture, Resiliency, and Restoration (MARR) Program.  This position will serve as the State lead to engage in activities that preserve, enhance, restore, and increase resiliency for the State’s native aquatic resources and their associated habitats by promoting stakeholder stewardship while supporting cultural and traditional practices to ensure the long-term viability of Hawaii’s marine ecosystems.

 

Who We Are:  The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR), Division of Aquatic Resources' (DAR) mission is to work with the people of Hawai‘i to manage, conserve, and restore the state’s unique aquatic resources and ecosystems for present and future generations.  DAR serves as the lead agency in managing marine resources ecosystems in Hawai‘i.

 

We’re seeking a highly motivated Program Manager to lead the MARR Program.  This leadership position within DAR will oversee the MARR Program by providing planning, oversight, support, and development of projects related to stream, estuary, coral restoration, aquaculture, stock enhancement, invasive species prevention, control, and management. The position manages and oversees program activities; plans program strategies; coordinates mitigation, aquaculture, resiliency, and restoration projects; develops and directs studies of the condition, distribution, and impacts of land and ocean management and alien species on aquatic species and their habitats; and minimizes, mitigates, or compensates for impacts to marine resources.  Supports responsible coral research projects and responsible coral reef resiliency and restoration efforts.  The ideal candidate will enjoy working with diverse stakeholders and partners to advance Hawai’i’s co-developed management goals.

 

As a Division of Aquatic Resources Team member, you’ll:

  • Develop and lead coral reef and aquaculture restoration strategies for Hawaii in partnership with communities, agencies, researchers, conservation groups, and businesses.
  • Develop and lead Hawaii's prevention and control strategies for protecting Hawaii from aquatic invasive species threats.
  • Forge partnerships with Hawaiian communities, researchers, agencies, conservation groups, and businesses to achieve common goals.

Requirements

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Legal Authorization to Work Requirement:
The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.  

Education:  Bachelor's degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a major in one of the following: 
1.  Natural resources management, forestry, wildlife management or other related natural resource management major;
2.  Botany, zoology, wildlife biology, entomology, or other related natural resource science major;
3.  Environmental studies with an area of concentration related to natural resources management. 

Experience:  Four (4) years of progressively responsible professional work experience in one or a combination of the following:
1.  Management, utilization and/or conservation of aquatic natural resources;
2.  Protection of aquatic natural resources against diseases, animals, or other depredations;
3.  Applied research and analysis directly applicable to the development, protection, and management of aquatic natural resources; or
4.  Resource planning for the development, protection, and management of aquatic natural resources.  

Supervisory Experience:  One (1) year of supervisory work experience which included:  1) planning, organizing, scheduling, and directing the work of others; 2) assigning and reviewing their work; 3) advising them on difficult work problems; 4) training and developing subordinates; and 5) evaluating their work performance.  

Managerial Experience:   Managerial aptitude is required.
