Job Details

The Research Technician position will be responsible for:
  • The culture of shellfish, including the spawning, larval rearing, setting, and growing out of shellfish
  • Assisting in the cultivation of microalgae, including media prep, cell counts, and feeding
  • Assisting the fieldwork team as needed
  • Collecting data and analyze it as needed to meet grant obligations

The Research Technician has an operational understanding of the hatchery systems such that the position can conduct routine monitoring (collect and record data) of water quality, flow rates, pump functions and maintain system functionality.

Requirements

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements 

High school and one year of directly related experience required to perform the assigned duties.

Preferred education, professional skills and experience
  • A BS in Biology or a related field and one year of experience in aquaculture (either in a laboratory or commercial setting)
  • Documented evidence of post-undergraduate training in shellfish aquaculture, and/or Graduate work in a relevant field
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively as part of a team working together to achieve safe, efficient, and productive operation of hatchery systems
  • Ability to keep detailed and accurate accounts of daily operations
  • Ability to exercise good judgment when encountering problems and the willingness to seek advice/assistance from supervisor or colleague
