Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Ecological Modelling

Job Details

Your overall focus will be to strengthen the departments competences within ecological modelling of coastal ecosystems and advance our understanding of pressure-impact interactions (e.g. eutrophication), ecosystem and habitat dynamics e.g., in relation to marine food production and restoration of coastal ecosystems.

You will work with nearby colleagues, and with both academic, public and industrial partners in Denmark as well as abroad. Your primary tasks will be to:

  • Develop advanced dynamic models addressing key aspects of coastal ecosystem functioning
  • Analyze interactions between pressures, coastal habitats and environmental conditions 
  • Advance our understanding of how food production incl. Low Trophic Aquaculture and coastal fisheries interacts with coastal ecosystems already affected by human pressures like eutrophication
  • Improve models, methods and decision-support tools for coastal ecosystem management and restoration
  • Predict impacts of different management strategies for coastal ecosystems under present and future conditions
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals
  • Be part of the sections team providing advice to public management and industry
  • Teach and supervise at BSc and MSc level and be co-supervisor for PhD students

Requirements

You must be responsible for the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.

As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) preferable within aquatic ecology, ecological modelling, environmental science, engineering or similar. Specific qualifications include:

  • Experience with application and development of process-based ecological models
  • Strong skills in scientific programming (Python, R, Matlab, etc)
  • Preferable experience with model and software development 
  • Experience in data analysis and statistical tools
  • Publications in high-ranking journals
  • Preferably experience with advisory work and teaching
  • Good collaboration and communication skills
