Odawa Island Farms is one of Ontario’s first offshore fish farms, and we raise over two million pounds of rainbow trout each year. It’s a partnership between Sheshegwaning First Nation and Cedar Crest Trout Farms, located near the town of Sheshegwaning. The farm has been commercially operating for three years and continues to expand with new infrastructure, staff, technologies and increased production.

As our new farm manager, you’ll be joining the team at Cedar Crest Trout Farms. We are an energetic, second-generation fish farming business with four hatcheries in Grey County, one of Canada’s largest trout breeding programs, a processing plant, and home delivery/retail program under the brand name Springhills Fish.

This innovative fish farm needs an innovative leader — somebody with 5+ years experience:

·         Working in open water and diverse weather conditions

·         Overseeing husbandry and care for farmed salmonids

·         Understanding and observing salmonid behaviour to inform feeding practices and to detect and prevent fish health concerns

·         Operating and maintaining equipment, such as boats, forklifts, fish pumps, harvesters and small engines

·         Overseeing environmental monitoring, water sample collection and adherence to operating licence conditions and eco-certification standards

·         Leading a team of hard-working aquaculture technicians with varying levels of experience

·         Being responsible for the organization, maintenance, and cleanliness of a fish farm site

·         Building and maintaining relationships with neighbours and community members around the fish farm location, as well as other managers and staff within our family business
