Job Details

As an Aquarist on The Seas team, you are a professional aquatic animal keeper who provides care to the aquatic animals living at The Seas in EPCOT. You will have achieved technical proficiency in caring for aquatic animals, understanding of welfare practices, behavioral management, and water quality as it relates to animal health.

This is a Full-Time position reporting to the Zoological Managers on the team.

What You Will Do

  • Perform water chemistries, record the information and advise team of atypical results
  • Administer treatments prescribed by a veterinarian, and assist in logistics of set up and clean-up post exam
  • Daily administration of animal diets. Maintain the area, exhibits and facilities in keeping with AZA standards and follow the AZA code of ethics, and animal standards
  • Complete end of day checks on animals and Life Support Systems for issues or malfunctions.
  • Perform informal and formal presentations to Walt Disney World Resort guests
  • Remain current on the health and welfare status, consumption trends, behavioral husbandry plans and any prescribed medical treatments for animals in the area
  • Maintain accurate, detailed records to facilitate data-based decisions to ensure quality animal management and welfare
  • Devise and complete behavioral husbandry plan to be integrated into daily animal care activities.

Requirements

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum of one year working in the animal care department of a public aquarium
  • Have or be able to acquire a valid Florida Driver’s License
  • SCUBA Certification, and comfortability with daily SCUBA diving
  • Ability to become SCUBA Rescue, CPR and First Aid Certified
  • Comfortability with heavy lifting up to 50lbs
  • Prior experience working with chemicals and familiar with accurate and safe handling practices
  • Proficiency in basic computer functions vital to operate in a Windows environment and other technologies
  • Schedule availability to include weekends, variable shifts, and holidays

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in aquatic husbandry at an AZA-accredited facility

Education

  • High School Degree or equivalent experience

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor's degree n Marine Biology, Aquaculture, Zoology, or related field
