PhD position in circularity in the aquaculture supply chain

Molde, Norway Full Time

Job Details

Aquaculture plays a crucial role in meeting the global demand for seafood and has significant economic implications. The Norwegian aquaculture industry is among the world’s biggest and still has high ambitions for further growth. This growth will put increasing strain on the both the local, regional and global environment. There is a need for exploring innovative and sustainable solutions involving a circular economic perspective. This industry, like other major players within the EU or EEA, now has to report on the environmental footprint of the entire supply chains (including Scope 3 emissions), which means that the pressure for finding more sustainable business models and operational practices is likely to grow.

We now call for PhD proposals addressing circularity in the aquaculture supply chains based on this backdrop. The proposals should explore current circularity initiatives and practices, focus on barriers that hinder such business models, assess economic and non-economic benefits that companies could harness from adopting circularity, and investigate potential recommendations for the industry or for regulating authorities to pave the way for more sustainable aquaculture supply chains.

For a position as a PhD Candidate, the goal is a completed doctoral education comprising 30 ECTS of PhD courses and a successful defence of your doctoral thesis.

Requirements

We are seeking candidates with a solid educational background in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Science, Aquaculture, Ecology or other relevant areas.

It will be seen as an advantage if you have experience from the aquaculture industry or from working with circular business models or policies that promote circular economic thinking from a regulatory point of view.

Your higher education must equate 5 years of full-time studies on top of the entry requirements for first cycle studies (Bachelor’s degree) in Norway. For some countries this means that you must have more than 5 years of what is called higher education in your home country.
