The Coastal Marine Technical Specialist (CMTS) will support the design and implementation of the Coastal Marine Conservation Strategy in Ecuador, including planning, project implementation and monitoring, stakeholder engagement, information generation, accountability, and resource mobilization. May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
The Coastal Marine Technical Specialist (CMTS) will spearhead the implementation of mangrove restoration and conservation projects in Coastal-Marine region by coordinating with key stakeholders like national and local governments, shrimp farmers, communities, and associations. The Coastal Marine Technical Specialist (CMTS) will oversee restoration activities, monitoring progress, and collaborate with project coordinators. Additionally, they will assist in sustainable transition processes for small and medium-scale farms, policy development, piloting sustainability initiatives, and fostering connections with NGOs and policymakers to build a sustainable vision for Ecuador's shrimp sector. A critical role is tracking industry partners' progress against sustainability commitments in location-specific shrimp projects in Ecuador. within the Ecuador Business Unit (BU). Serves as the principle contact to government agencies, other conservation organizations, foundations, and the academic community.

The Coastal Marine Technical Specialist (CMTS) supports the Coastal Marine strategy coordinator to define the conservation priorities and long-term conservation strategies, builds strategic, scientific, and technical capacity in the field, and develops key partnerships with public and private organizations to identify and resolve technical issues and to widely communicate solutions and best practices related to the conservation and restoration of coastal marine resources.  This role demands resilience, as you may work in remote locations, challenging terrains, and physically demanding conditions.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
•    Performs tasks with minimal supervision and makes independent decisions based on analysis, experience, and context.
•    Ensures program compliance with internal policies and external requirements.
•    Implements field actions in coordination with public officials and community groups in the coastal-marine ecosystems.
•    Collaborate with stakeholders to design and implement mangrove conservation and restoration projects in Ecuador.
•    Develop and oversee activities promoting sustainable aquaculture and mangrove conservation.
•    Support the development of a sustainable vision for the shrimp sector in Ecuador.
•    Track progress against sustainability commitments in location-specific shrimp projects.
•    Under the leadership of the Coastal Marine Program Coordinator, plan and manage the technical and aspects related to the conservation projects of the strategy related to mangrove conservation and sustainability of shrimp.
•    Managing, maintaining, and updating program information on required digital platforms with guidance from the coordinator of the strategy.
•    Contributing to proposal development for Ecuador's conservation program, focusing on the marine-coastal zone and the Daule River basin.
•    Generate inputs for disseminating technical information to internal and external stakeholders.
•    Assisting in the planning and facilitation of meetings and workshops necessary for program implementation, as directed by the Coordinator.
•    Representing TNC at events related to coastal-marine and freshwater themes, under the guidance of the Coordinator of the strategy
•    Support the update of the Coastal Marine Strategy and occasionally writing articles for dissemination purposes, with input from the Coordinator.
•    Provide support to conservation programs for watershed and sustainable landscape initiatives on specific topics, as directed by the Coordinator.
•    Works with civil society organizations to strengthen their institutional capacity and sustainability in relation to conservation of coastal-marine ecosystems.
•    Contributes to and systematizes information for project indicators that involves inputting necessary information to comply with project standards.
•    Organize discussion forums and workshops with various stakeholders regarding conservation and restoration of mangroves and development projects.
•    Work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.


Requirements

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

•    Bachelor’s degree in a branch of Environmental Sciences: biology, ecology, environmental management, or related fields and 4 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
•    At least 4 years of experience in similar positions (project coordination or project components).
•    Experience in relations with key stakeholders (communities, local governments, non-governmental organizations, government agencies, universities).
•    Experience researching, critically analyzing, and evaluating information from divergent sources and compiling it into cohesive reports and recommendations for strategy and action.
•    Experience using applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Web Browsers.
•    Availability to travel frequently within and outside the country.
•    Experience with analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
•    Remonstrated experience influencing, developing and implementing conservation policy and plans.
•    Knowledge of current trends and practices in relevant discipline(s) and regions.
•    Knowledge of methods and standards of biodiversity information systems and initiatives or related field.
•    Knowledge of land management conservation practice and conservation science.
•    Experience and basic knowledge in aquaculture systems and farming.
•    Experience developing and delivering high quality presentations to external partners.
•    Ability to explain conservation practices to technical and non-technical audiences.
•    Excellent communication skills via written, spoken and graphical means in Spanish and English.
•    Willingness to learn and develop expertise in new conservation strategies, economic drivers, management tools, and global affairs.
