Fisheries Biologists (Senior/Intermediate)

We are seeking Senior and Intermediate Fisheries/Aquatic Biologists to join our team in Western Canada. This position can be worked out of our offices in Vancouver, Victoria, Nanaimo, Kamloops, and or Prince George.

What We’re Looking For:

Senior Fisheries Biologist

  • Provide technical leadership for fisheries and aquatic science on a variety of projects in the mining and infrastructure sectors
  • Lead the successful completion of high quality technical reports
  • Advise on study designs and data analysis, including advanced statistical analyses and interpretation of complex data
  • Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary group
  • Promote fisheries and aquatic services and develop new opportunities
  • Perform senior level project activities, such as project/budget management and report writing
  • Provide mentorship and supervision to junior and intermediate staff

Intermediate Fisheries Biologist

  • Planning and leading fisheries and aquatic resources field programs in remote locations
  • Prepare high quality technical reports
  • Conduct and coordinate data management and analysis, including statistical analyses and management of large, complex datasets
  • Support the development of new opportunities through proposal writing and other business development activities
  • Project coordination and project management support
  • Provide mentorship and supervision to junior staff

Requirements

Senior Fisheries Biologist

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree related to fisheries, aquatic, or environmental science
  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience, including consulting experience in the BC mining and infrastructure sectors
  • Excellent knowledge of the Fisheries Act and federal/provincial environmental assessment processes
  • Strong experience developing fish habitat offsetting plans
  • Strong experience with in-stream flow modelling
  • Multi-jurisdictional knowledge of environmental regulations, policies, and permit application processes
  • Experience in budgeting and project management
  • Valid driver’s licence
  • Registration (or eligibility for registration) as a Professional Biologist (R.P.Bio) in BC

Intermediate Fisheries Biologist

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree related to fisheries, aquatic, or environmental science
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience (experience in consulting an asset)
  • Registration (or eligibility for registration) as a Registered Professional Biologist (R.P.Bio.) in BC
  • Strong background in fisheries and aquatic science, including familiarity with field sampling and assessment methods for fish, fish habitat (including water and sediment quality), benthic invertebrates, and periphyton
  • Experience with federal, provincial, and territorial environmental legislation, guidelines, and permitting processes
  • Flexibility to travel for fieldwork
  • Ability to manage personal project workload and meet deadlines
  • Strong technical, oral, and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with mine permitting and fish habitat offsetting would be an asset
  • Required certifications: Valid BC driver’s licence and BC electrofishing supervisor certification
  • Preferred certifications: ATV/UTV/Argo Safe Operations certification and/or CABIN field technician or project manager
