Consultant- CARP Fish Hatchery Technician (National and International)

Job Details

LWR is seeking a highly skilled and qualified and experienced Carp Hatchery Technician. The Hatchery Technician will be responsible for the day-to-day operations in carp hatchery. This includes managing and handling brood fish, preparing ponds, selecting broods for breeding, and performing induced breeding techniques appropriately keeping in mind the brood health, injuries during handling and other sanitation measures of farm biosecurity, improving water quality through altering water filtration system with appropriate scientific ways. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of fish biology and aquaculture practices, especially during the transport of ripe brood fish from pond to hatchery and vice-verse, careful handling in the hatchery during spawning, and post spawning stages.

Expected Tasks

The Carp Hatchery Technician will provide recommendations to improve the hatchery operation system for better production and profit. Technician will undertake, but not be limited to, the following activities to complete the task.

  1. Carp hatchery design, circular hatchery, overhead tank water supply and improvement:
  2. Demonstration of carp brood pond preparation and management:
  3. Demonstration of appropriate carp broodstock management:
  4. Carp breeding and rearing:
  5. Carp egg handling and incubation demonstration:
  6. Carp hatchling management:
  7. Record keeping and data analysis:
  8. Hatchery sanitation measure, biosecurity, farm maintenance and cleaning:
  9. Compliance with regulations:

Deliverables

The following deliverables are expected from Carp Hatchery Technician:

  • Assessment Report: outline opportunities, hazards, and areas for improvement in this thorough assessment of hatchery operations.
  • Measures of Performance Establishment:
  • Training Program Development: assist in drafting a customized training curriculum, including schedules, materials, and evaluation standards, for hatchery workers.
  • Catla catla spawning success rate of at least 60%
  • Final Outcomes Report: a final report summarizing the work done, outcomes achieved, and suggestions for future management including a detailed plan for implementing recommended changes or improvements. This plan should include timelines, resources needed, and expected outcomes.

Level of Effort and Timeline

The ToR is expected to be completed by both remote and field work. Field visits will be required to Simara and the implementation regions including both government and private farms through the course of the consultancy. All terms will be agreed upon in the consultant contract.

Requirements

The Hatchery Technician should possess the following qualifications:

  • Previous involvement in carp (Indian major carps, Chinese carps) hatchery management and seed production, coupled with a certification system background, will be regarded favorably for this consultancy opportunity. Experience conducting Training for
