Job Details

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hatchery Operations: Assist in the daily operations of the hatchery, including spawning, egg collection, incubation, and larval rearing.
  • Fingerling Farm Management: Support the management of fingerling production, ensuring optimal growth conditions, feeding, and health monitoring.
  • Staff Supervision: Supervise and train hatchery staff, ensuring adherence to operational protocols and maintaining high standards of productivity and safety.
  • Maintenance and Repairs: Oversee the maintenance and repair of hatchery equipment and facilities to ensure efficient and continuous operation.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of hatchery and fingerling production data, including survival rates, growth rates, and health status.
  • Quality Control: Implement and monitor quality control procedures to ensure the production of high-quality fingerlings.
  • Inventory Management: Manage inventory of supplies and materials necessary for hatchery and farm operations.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Communication: Effectively communicate with management, staff, and external stakeholders in both English and Spanish.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Aquaculture, Fisheries Science, Biology, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in hatchery or aquaculture operations.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in hatchery techniques and fingerling production.
    • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to manage and motivate a team.
    • Excellent record-keeping and data analysis abilities.
    • Mechanical aptitude for maintaining and repairing equipment.
  • Language: Bilingual in English and Spanish is a significant asset.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work in a variety of conditions, including indoors in the hatchery and outdoors at the fingerling farm.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, and perform physical tasks as needed.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays during peak seasons.
