Palacios Marine Agricultural Research is seeking an experienced Senior Larval Biologist to join our hatchery team. This role is critical to the successful operation of our bivalve larval culture program. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in larval rearing, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to independently manage hatchery operations during assigned shifts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently oversee and execute all aspects of bivalve larval culture operations during assigned shifts.
  • Maintain optimal environmental and nutritional conditions for larvae, ensuring high survival and growth rates.
  • Monitor water quality parameters, manage algal cultures, and conduct routine health assessments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hatchery challenges, including disease management, system maintenance, and operational inefficiencies.
  • Work collaboratively with the Hatchery Manager to develop and refine hatchery protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to data analysis for continuous improvement.
  • Train and mentor junior hatchery staff as needed.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all hatchery staff in accordance with company safety protocols

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in bivalve larval culture within a hatchery setting.
  • Strong understanding of larval development, nutrition, and water quality management.
  • Ability to work independently and take full responsibility for hatchery operations during designated shifts.
  • Experience with algae culture techniques and live feed management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make data-driven decisions.
