Key Responsibilities

Research Leadership: Develop and lead a cutting-edge research programme focused on the control of infectious diseases impacting aquaculture species, in alignment with Moredun’s strategic objectives
Project Delivery: Ensure the successful delivery of research objectives within Moredun’s strategic plan and externally funded research projects, including overseeing and delivering on project timelines, budgets, and milestones
Team Management: Lead and manage support staff and students, providing guidance, mentorship, and leadership to ensure the achievement of research goals
External Funding: Build and expand research networks to attract significant levels of external funding from a diverse range of funding bodies and industry partners
Stakeholder Engagement: Foster strong relationships with key stakeholder groups, industry partners, and end-users to facilitate knowledge exchange and the transfer of innovative research outcomes into practical applications
Research Group Development: Expand and develop the Aquaculture Research Group at Moredun, collaborating closely with Moredun Scientific Ltd to initiate and advance industry-focused research projects and explore new funding opportunities

Experience required

A PhD in a relevant field (e.g., Aquaculture, veterinary science, infectious diseases, or related disciplines) with a strong background in aquaculture research and/or vaccinology
Proven track record of successfully managing and leading research teams, with experience in aquaculture or animal health-related research
A strong publication record, demonstrating clear impact for research outcomes
A demonstrated ability to secure significant external funding from diverse sources, including government, charitable, and industry partners
Experience in engaging with stakeholders, with a passion for translating research findings into practical applications for industry
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to mentor and inspire a team of researchers and students
