Help shape the future of sustainable fisheries in Wales. As a Fisheries Manager, you’ll lead the development of Fisheries Management Plans with industry, communities and delivery partners—turning evidence and stakeholder insight into practical, future‑focused policy.

What You’ll Do
 

  • Design and consult on new management measures that support sustainable fisheries and healthy marine ecosystems.
  • Analyse consultation feedback and evidence, translating it into clear, workable proposals.
  • Draft and implement regulations that reflect Ministerial priorities and are deliverable for stakeholders.
  • Build strong partnerships across government, industry and the wider marine community to ensure plans are realistic, fair and effective.

Key tasks
 

  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to draft Fisheries Management Plans as required under the UK Fisheries Act (2020).
  • Implement Fisheries Management Plans, including developing and bringing forward secondary legislation to support adaptive fisheries management.
  • Apply project management principles to co‑ordinate a range of activities across Fisheries Science, Control & Enforcement, Domestic Fisheries Policy and Communications teams to support effective fisheries management.
  • Develop evidence‑based policy, working closely with technical experts inside and outside government to shape practical and sustainable management measures.
  • Prepare and present progress updates on key workstreams to Senior Managers and the Ministerial Advisory Group for Welsh Fisheries (MAGWF), and lead sub‑groups on priority areas when required.
  • Work with counterparts across UK Governments and delivery bodies to design innovative policy and management solutions.
  • Deliver timely ministerial correspondence and support wider government business, ensuring high‑quality advice and clear communication.

Requirements

 

  • Experience of policy development and public/stakeholder consultation.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and qualitative feedback.
  • Clear, concise drafting skills and attention to detail.
  • A collaborative working style and confidence engaging a wide range of stakeholders.
