Technical Lead for Fish Welfare Campaign

Job Details

This is a full-time position for a Technical Lead for the Fish Welfare Campaign at AKF. The Technical Lead will focus on designing, directing, and implementing campaigns and initiatives that aim to improve fish welfare. Key responsibilities include conducting research on best practices, analyzing current fish welfare conditions, collaborating with stakeholders, developing technical and strategic plans, and overseeing technical aspects of campaign activities.

Responsibilities

1. Develop assessment tools and field guides for welfare monitoring.
2. Provide technical assistance to the campaign regarding fish health and welfare monitoring.
3. Translate technical assessments into advocacy-oriented recommendations for stakeholders, policymakers, or the public. 
4. Analyze and synthesize data into clear, actionable reports. 
5. Communicate effectively and clearly with stakeholders, including fish farmers, local government units, and community organizations. 
6. Conduct field visits and travel to fish farms as needed.
7. Work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Aquaculture, Marine Biology, Fisheries, Veterinary Science, Animal Science, or any related field 
• 1-2 years of experience in aquaculture, fish welfare, or any related advocacy or research projects.
• A qualified understanding of the science behind fish welfare and sentience
• Knowledgeable on aquaculture systems (hatcheries, grow-out farms, RAS, etc.) and their welfare implications.
• Knowledgeable on local and international welfare standards (e.g., OIE Aquatic Animal Health Code, FAO guidelines, Code of Good Aquaculture Practices).
• Experience in conducting welfare assessments on fish, including behavioral observations, health checks, and other necessary assessments regarding fish welfare
• Familiar with campaigns or initiatives related to animal welfare or sustainable aquaculture.
