The laboratory of the research group is looking for an independent research assistant / analyst (part-time, 24–28 hours per week) at MBO/HBO level to prepare samples and perform analyses related to the composition of fish, their feed, and the water quality of aquaculture systems.

Your main tasks as an Analyst will involve the preparation and analysis of samples for nutritional research carried out within the research group.

These tasks mainly include:

  • Performing classical analyses such as determination of dry matter, ash, Kjeldahl protein, crude fat, starch, energy, minerals, etc.
  • Sample preparation, such as freeze-drying and grinding.
  • Spectrophotometry and measurements related to water quality.
  • Supervising (MSc, PhD) students when they work in the lab as part of their thesis research.

The Aquaculture Biology and Fisheries Ecology (AFI) research group is part of the Department of Animal Sciences at Wageningen University. The group conducts research in the fields of fish, shellfish, and crustacean nutrition and health, as well as sustainable aquaculture systems and fisheries. These are the topics we are passionate about.

Requirements

  • You don’t mind occasionally working outside regular working hours.

What we ask:

  • A completed MBO/HBO education in chemical analysis or a comparable field.
  • Good command of the English language, both spoken and written.
  • Good Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
  • Work experience in sample preparation, Weende analysis, spectrophotometry, and knowledge of water quality is an advantage.
  • An affinity with fish makes the work even more enjoyable.
