Laurence Massaut is a Biologist, with a master’s degree in Aquatic Ecology from the University of Namur (Belgium) and a PhD degree in Aquaculture from Auburn University (USA).  Since March 2017, Laurence is R&D Director at BioMar Ecuador, a leading company in the production of high performance diets for the aquaculture sector.  Previously, she has worked as the Technical Director of the National Chamber of Aquaculture (Ecuadorian shrimp industry association), researcher at the Ecuadorian national center for aquaculture and marine research (CENAIM-ESPOL), and lecturer at the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL, Ecuador).  She has worked in Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, USA and, since 1999, in Ecuador.  She has numerous scientific and technical publications on aquaculture and its environmental impact, shrimp culture efficiency and production ecosystem management, and cyanobacteria control.  She has consulted for various aquaculture companies and international organizations and is a regular speaker at aquaculture conferences worldwide.
