Indigenous Partnerships / Engagement

Wednesday, August 17, 2022 14:30 - 17:30 Victoria 3
Chair: Cyr Couturier, Levana Mastrangelo

Indigenous aquaculture takes place in many countries, including participation of over 50 First Nations in sustainable seafood production (harvesting, processing, and aquaculture) in Canada. Many forms of partnerships, business and social-economic opportunities exist for indigenous participation in seafood production, both farmed and wild. This session will commence with examples of seafood production developments and innovations by indigenous / First Nations operations in North America. Following this, leaders involved in Indigenous Aquaculture and seafood production will present their views in a round-table panel and engage in a discussion on opportunities and threats for indigenous participation in aquaculture, engaging the audience in a facilitated discussion.
