“Future aquafeed supply chains in a transitioning industry and a changing climate“.

Research on the complexities surrounding aquafeed production have highlighted the significant environmental impacts of feed ingredient sourcing in aquaculture supply chains. The shift from conventional fishery-based ingredients to a diverse mix of terrestrial, marine, livestock, and alternative ingredients presents both challenges and opportunities, particularly in terms of transparency, sustainability trade-offs, and fish health. This transition is crucial however, for enhancing the resilience and sustainability of the aquaculture industry, especially in the face of climate change. Getting a holistic, systems perspective on aquafeed ingredients and their impacts is key to drive development and increase transparency in aquafeed production.

At the AQUA 2024 conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) will host a workshop to explore these issues, inviting industry leaders, researchers, certification programmes, and stakeholders to collaborate on innovative solutions. This event aims to strengthen cross-sectoral cooperation and support the advancement of sustainable aquaculture practices.
