NASA Remote Sensing Workshop for Aquaculture Applications

Saturday, March 8, 2025 8:30 AM - 10:30 AM Studio 8
Chair: Amita Mehta, William Wainwright

Requirement: Attendees should bring their laptops to participate in provided hands-on exercises.

Description:

This 2-hour, introductory, in-person workshop will provide an overview of NASA remote sensing data for supporting aquaculture activities in marine and freshwater environments. The workshop will include the fundamentals of remote sensing of water quality, and how to access and visualize remote sensing data for monitoring harmful algal blooms. Participants will engage in hands-on exercises to access and visualize satellite imagery and water quality indicators using NASA webtools. No prior knowledge or experience is required to attend the workshop.

Agenda:

Presentations:

  • Fundamentals of Remote Sensing
  • Overview of Satellites and Sensors Relevant for Water Quality Monitoring

Demonstration of NASA Webtools for Water Quality Monitoring:

Access and visualize satellite images and algal bloom indicators (Water Temperature and Chlorophyll-a) using Worldview

Access and visualize water quality petameters (Chlorophyll-a, Total Suspended Solids, and Sechhi Disk Depth) using STREAM

Hands-On Exercises:

Monitor Water Quality of selected Water bodies using Worldview and STREAM

Workshop Feedback & Q/A
