AABLN Session - Mobilising collective action of business leaders to catalyze the transformation of African Aquaculture

Wednesday, June 25, 2025 09.00 - 10.20 Royal Palm Room
Chair: Avrim Lazar

As part of World Aquaculture Safari 2025, the African Aquaculture Business Leaders Network (AABLN) will host a panel session on Wednesday 25 June 2025 from 9-10am focused on mobilizing collective action to help transform African Aquaculture.

This session will be the inaugural introduction of AABLN, and will provide insights into:

  • The opportunities aquaculture development presents in meeting food security, climate and socio-economic development goals
  • AABLN’s mission to catalyze accelerated development of sustainable aquaculture through private sector leadership
  • The barriers to sector development, and how collective action between business leaders can support transformation at speed and scale
  • What key success factors exist from financing accessibility, regulatory hosting conditions and industry advancements
  • The opportunities for wider stakeholder engagement

With Africa’s population projected to double by 2050 and the FAO predicting that aquaculture production needs to increase by 74% by 2050, the panellists here will be exploring the role of business leaders in realizing this potential, and the power of collective action.

This session is aimed at identifying action points and encouraging more coordinated efforts through platforms such as AABLN to build a stronger aquaculture sector across the continent.

Panellists:

  • Sophie Ryan, AABLN secretariat
  • Gerry McCollum, Chicoa Fish Farm
  • Caesar Asiyo, Victory Farms, AABLN Chair
  • Angela Odero, Rio Fish
  • Rob Binnekamp, Skretting/Nutreco
