World Aquaculture Safari 2025

June 24 - 27, 2025

Kampala, Uganda

WAS Central Africa Outreach Session

Friday, June 27, 2025 13.30 - 16.30 Meera
Chair: Judith Makombu

Aquaculture in Africa is experiencing significant growth, with production volumes increasing almost five-fold over the past two decades. Services provided by World Aquaculture Society (WAS) and WAS-Africa Chapter contribute significantly to this development. However, there is a huge regional variation in aquaculture production in Africa, with the highest production in North Africa, followed by West Africa while Central Africa has the lowest production level despite the potential. Aquaculture Safari 25 is an opportunity for Central Africa members there present to know one another and build strong connections in order to exploit the benefits of WAS and WAS-AC. The main objective of the brief meeting is then to create a Central Africa network that will ensure members stay informed and connected and to brainstorm on actions needed to expand membership (small scale farmers, students, and supporting industries) in the region. The network will further serve as a channel to discuss specific problems of the region, to understand member’s needs and brainstorm on the possible ways of WAS and WAS-AC in assisting them meeting those needs.

Attendees: All Central African or representatives, WAS-AC President, WAS strategic partners: AUDA-NEPAD, Aller Aqua, anyone interested to learn more about aquaculture development in Central Africa.
