Rapid and accurate detection of pathogenic species and their differentiation from commensal species is essential for disease management and the implementation of strategies to control the spread of infection. AqPathDx diagnostic kit enables rapid, pondside detection of the most common catfish and tilapia pathogens in two separate panels in less than 30 minutes. One panel is designed to target three common catfish pathogens: Aeromonas sp., Edwardsiella sp., and Flavobacterium sp. and another panel targets three common tilapia pathogens: Aeromonas sp., Streptococcus sp. and Tilapia lake virus (TiLV). This kit is based on a novel multiplex loop-mediated isothermal amplification (mLAMP) method, which allows real-time detection of up to 4 targets in a single reaction in 30 minutes.
LAMP primers were designed for specific amplification of targeted pathogens in under 30 minutes. For LAMP assay development and optimization, genomic DNA extracts of targets normalized to 1 ng/µL were used. Results presented in Table 1 shows high sensitivity of LAMP assay for each pathogen.
