By linking the entire supply chain through annual verification at every stage of the production processes, GLOBALG.A.P. set of standards provide a management tool to both primary production of aquatic species for human consumption, and industrial processing of aquafeed. Complementing the appropriate mass balance and segregation requirements at the chain of custody standard, consumers can rely on responsible sourced and traceable products at point of sale.

This year 2024 is a transition year for new versions of the standards. The presentation aims to share with the audience what is new at the aquaculture, compound feed manufacturing, risk assessment on social practices and chain of custody set of standards. All these standards have relevant updates to meet evolving needs and are needed to cover the full supply chain.

Operating since 2004, aquaculture certified farms feedback reflects that this certification turns into a practical guide to their operations through detailed criteria written in a friendly and clear manner satisfying GLOBALG.A.P. purpose on working hand in hand with producers. Although the ultimate goal is to obtain certification, the standard is the best tool the aquaculture sector can adopt to properly manage their operations. The standard for aquaculture is designed to cover all farming systems and the species under finfish, crustaceans, molluscs and seaweed (macroalgae) at international level.

The aspects covered are those stipulated by the FAO Technical Guidelines on Aquaculture certification. With strong governance reliability, including the robust Integrity Program. This pioneering program is the first of its kind in food certification and is designed to ensure consistent delivery and implementation of the standard worldwide. It acts as a feedback mechanism that serves the ongoing improvement of the GLOBALG.A.P. System in all its aspects, promoting transparency and integrity.

The scope covers full production chain verification of: Broodstock, Seedlings, Aquafeed, Grow-out, Post harvest activities up to the point of sale for final consumers.
