Three production scenarios were used as part of an evaluation of the feasibility of culture of crayfish Procambarus clarkii in a forage free, deep water system using ponds that were part of an inland commercial shrimp Litopenaeus vanamei farm in west Alabama, USA.  The first scenario (2.0 ha), used a split pond design where both shrimp and crayfish were stocked into the production cell, and crayfish were also stocked into the waste treatment cell. In the second and third scenarios, monoculture of crayfish was conducted in a split pond (2.1 ha) and a conventional pond (0.81 ha). Stocking, feeding, and harvest data will be presented. The results offer insight into the design and management practices that are needed to achieve successful implementation of a shrimp and crawfish polyculture production system.
