We analyzed results from a series of growout trials to evaluate the adaptability of F. lancifer to commercial culture conditions, generating baseline data on growth, maturation and reproduction in simulated pond environments. Specific goals were to determine effects of stocking density and winter vegetation crops and their planting dates on yields and average size at harvest. Methods Trials were conducted at the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center’s Aquaculture Research Station (ARS) near Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Each of 50 outdoor circular fiberglass mesocosm tanks was assigned to one of 10 forage/stocking density/ stocking date treatments (Table 1).
