The lightning talks were judged by a live audience and the top three spotlight presentations were given an additional cash award. The student spotlight presenters and award winners are as follows. Student Spotlight Award Winners: • First Place – Travis Knorr – “Beyond Brine Shrimp: Feed Attractants and Liquid Artemia Replacement Diets for the Culture of the Albino Rainbow Sharkminnow Epalzeorhynchos frenatum.” • Second Place – Fatin Fahim – “Alleviating Ammonia Toxicity in Catfish Farming: Protective Role of Elevated Water pH on Growth and Physiological Performance.” • Third Place – Alex Wright – “Composition of California’s Aquaculture Industry: Disease Management Strategies and Implications for Animal Welfare.” The top three student oral and poster presentations receive cash awards for their excellent presentations. Additionally, NOAA Sea Grant and YSI/Xylem sponsor special awards for the best student oral presentation for research related to their respective missions. The NOAA Sea Grant award goes to a student presenting aquaculture research from a coastal or Great Lakes state. YSI/Xylem is a newly established student presentation award sponsor, and their award goes to student research on water quality, environmental stewardship, or RAS/aquaponic technological advancements. Recipients of presentation awards are notified after the conference, once the judges have had an opportunity to confer. During the conference, the top three student abstracts from each society (WAS, USAS, NSA, AFS-FCS) received a cash award and were invited to present a lightning talk during the student
