Individuals wishing to have a project considered for funding by the USAS should prepare a proposal — guidelines are available on the website www.was.org. • CONDITIONS FOR PUBLICATION: The USAS Board of Directors will rate proposals and select projects for publication. The successful applicant will serve as co-author; however, depending on contribution to the publication, the applicant may not necessarily serve as chief or sole author. The USAS will cover general publication and distribution costs for one or more projects up to $5,000 each year. However, special consideration will be given to worthwhile projects that exceed this limit. No compensation will be provided to the authors for their time spent in writing the publication. After the hybrid presentations, Mr. Jung-hee Cho (Director General, Fisheries Policy Research Division, Korea Maritime Institute) moderated the discussion with all speakers and Mr. Kyung-dae Byun (Honorary Attaché of Oceans & Fisheries, Ministry of Oceans & Fisheries of Korea). The ForumMain Session 2 [Marine Environment] discussed the topic of global marine litter, debris and plastics. Practical Training for Fisheries High School Students Institute of Oceans and Fisheries Technology, Jeollanam-do, provided practical training for students enrolled in three fisheries high schools in the province: Wando Fisheries High School, Shinan Marine Science High School and Yeosu Marine Science High School. The practical training programwas designed to enhance the pride of fisheries high school students who are about to make career decisions such as college entrance and employment. The training provided information on industry trends, field experiences and practical education programs for promising aquaculture target species. Lectures and hands-on techniques on technology and monitoring sea cucumber farming, economic yellow croaker rearing technology and practical training of eel farming and management were given. After completion of training, students received certificates of training that can help to get the fishermen’s successor status and fisheries project application. English Version of ‘Invertebrates of Dokdo’ has been Published Gyeongsangbuk-do (Governor Cheol-woo Lee) announced that the English version of ‘Invertebrates of Dokdo’ has been published. ‘Invertebrates of Dokdo’ describes 104 species of mollusks living in the waters of Dokdo. It is the result of research conducted by the National Institute of Biological Resources (Director Yeonjae Bae) to understand the living organisms inhabiting Dokdo, with the permission of the Resource Center to share Dokdo’s biological resources and its diversity with the international community.
