Job Details

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Performing research, development, and teaching tasks in the area of fish parasitology
  • Teaching conducted in both Estonian and English
  • Participating in research and/or development projects as research staff or senior research staff
  • Publication of research and development results
  • Presentations at scientific conferences or seminars
  • Supervising and reviewing students' research projects
  • Conducting lifelong learning/advanced training for target groups
  • Upskilling the competencies and knowledge needed for research
  • Popularization of the profession and the field

 

Core courses taught

  • VL.0499 Ichthyopathology (3 ECTS, in Estonian)
  • VL.0827 Aquaculture technologies, fish and crayfish diseases and hygiene (3 ECTS, in both Estonian and English)

 

Workload

  • Scientific research − at least 70%
  • Teaching − up to 15%
  • Other tasks (advisory activities, conducting lifelong learning/advanced training courses, administrative tasks, etc.) − up to 15%

Requirements

Knowledge and skills

  • Scientific research experience in the field of fish parasitology, preferably on proliferative kidney disease of salmonid fish (publications in high-quality international scientific journals, in the volume equivalent to that of at least one doctoral thesis)
  • Research experience (experience of participating in research and/or development projects, joint publications with researchers from other research institutions or foreign researchers)
  • Ability to use modern technical teaching aids and teaching methods
  • Competence for teaching at the first two levels of higher education, including supervising graduation theses
  • Ability to use modern scientific research methods in the field of fish parasitology, including molecular genetic methods
  • Readiness to participate in the work of administrative bodies and committees
  • Advanced written and spoken Estonian and English language skills
  • Very good cooperation and communication skills, ability to adapt and organize
